About Arq App for MAC
Arq is super-easy online backup for Mac and Windows computers. Back up to your own cloud account (Amazon Cloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Cloud Storage, any S3-compatible server), your SFTP server, or your NAS. On OS X, Arq backs up and faithfully restores all the special metadata of Mac files that other products don’t, including resource forks, ACLs, and creator codes.
- Following the initial backup, Arq automatically makes incremental backups every hour, every day, uploading just the files that have changed since your last backup. Arq keeps hourly backups for the past 24 hours, daily backups for the past month, and weekly backups for everything older than a month.
- Arq lets you set a budget for storage, and it automatically drops the oldest backups to keep within the budget.
- Arq backs up everything with no limits. It backs up files of any size, external drives, and network drives.
- Arq compresses and “de-duplicates” your backups, never storing the same file twice in the cloud. Arq encrypts all your backups with a password that never leaves your computer, so no one can read your cloud backups.
- You can back up to multiple accounts. Back up some files to Glacier, some to S3, some to an SFTP server, etc.

New Features
Version 7.7:
Improvements:
- Added a tooltip over the “Modified” column that describes which values have changed.
- Show ‘Last Changed’ column in backup record detail view to indicate metadata (not file contents) have changed.
- Modified APFS snapshot usage to prevent other processes from unmounting Arq’s snapshot during backup.
- Changed activity log and email report to show more readable numbers like “5 MB” instead of “5,234,221 bytes”.
- Added details to the documentation for immutable backups and thinning.
- In the edit-SFTP-storage-location dialog, edit the path as well.
Fixed Issues:
- “Missing error information” errors during cleanup.
- “Show hidden files” checkbox wasn’t taking effect on subdirectories when directories are expanded.
- Occasional upload errors to Arq Cloud storage.
- Crashes when saving a backup plan on macOS 10.11.
- Slow database initialization on first backup after upgrading from Arq 5 and using Amazon Drive or Google Drive.
- If an error occurs during search, show the error and continue searching the other backup sets.
- Menubar icons rendering incorrectly when the menubar’s background is dark.
- “Error saving directory metadata” warning.
- If the volume type is ‘nfs’, scan it because no file-change notifications are available.
Installing Apps on MAC
Most Mac OS applications downloaded from outside the App Store come inside a DMG file. Like if you wanna download Arq for mac from this page, you’ll directly get the .dmg installation file into your MAC.
- First, download the Arq .dmg installation file from the official link on above
- Double-click the DMG file to open it, and you’ll see a Finder window.
- Often these will include the application itself, some form of arrow, and a shortcut to the Applications folder.
- Simply drag the application’s icon to your Applications folder
- And you’re done: the Arq is now installed.
- When you’re done installing: just click the “Eject” arrow.
- Then you can feel free to delete the original DMG file: you don’t need it anymore.
- Now, enjoy Arq for MAC !
You don’t have to put your programs in the Applications folder, though: they’ll run from anywhere. Some people create a “Games” directory, to keep games separate from other applications. But Applications is the most convenient place to put things, so we suggest you just put everything there.
DMG files are mounted by your system, like a sort of virtual hard drive. When you’re done installing the application, it’s a good idea to unmount the DMG in Finder.
