About MenuCal App for MAC
Note: MenuCal is no longer under development, and the developer provides no support for it.
MenuCal is a simple menu item for Mac OS X. It features a drop down calendar that can display iCal information for any date. It is currently in its infancy, and this release is mainly intended to gather feedback. Please visit the website to see what it can and can’t do in its current form.
MenuCal is considered donationware, if you like it, visit the website to donate. Otherwise feel free to use it for free if it suits you.
New Features
Version 0.8:
- Back to having the month selector on top, since most people agreed it was better that way
- I have hopefully caught all the memory bugs, so it should maybe possibly cross your fingers not crash anymore. No promises though… If it does crash, please contact me and let me know.
- It should now pop up to the left of the dock if you have your dock on the right hand side.
- The worst of the memory leaks have been fixed, although there are still a few hopefully minor ones I’m still tracking down.
- New features
- Auto away – closes window after a specified time interval
- Selectable colors for items in the calendar (suggestions for good default values are welcome as I’m partially colorblind…)
- Memos! you can type notes attached to a specific calendar day
- Should use less memory now, especially if you have a lot of iCal events
- iCal parser has been completely redone, and now supports recurring events
- growl notifications are now supported. The notification will appear 15 minutes before any iCal event if growl is enabled.
If you have any graphics ability, a donation of an application icon or any widgets would be greatly appreciated.
Installing Apps on MAC
Most Mac OS applications downloaded from outside the App Store come inside a DMG file. Like if you wanna download MenuCal for mac from this page, you’ll directly get the .dmg installation file into your MAC.
- First, download the MenuCal .dmg installation file from the official link on above
- Double-click the DMG file to open it, and you’ll see a Finder window.
- Often these will include the application itself, some form of arrow, and a shortcut to the Applications folder.
- Simply drag the application’s icon to your Applications folder
- And you’re done: the MenuCal is now installed.
- When you’re done installing: just click the “Eject” arrow.
- Then you can feel free to delete the original DMG file: you don’t need it anymore.

You don’t have to put your programs in the Applications folder, though: they’ll run from anywhere. Some people create a “Games” directory, to keep games separate from other applications. But Applications is the most convenient place to put things, so we suggest you just put everything there.
DMG files are mounted by your system, like a sort of virtual hard drive. When you’re done installing the application, it’s a good idea to unmount the DMG in Finder.
